Description

June 4 Halifax Following several informal meetings beginning in March 1972, the Gay Alliance for Equality (GAE) was officially formed. Early organizers of the group included Nils Clausson and Anne Fulton. In the first few months of its existence, GAE formed an executive and established GAELine, a telephone counselling service. Meetings were held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 5500 Inglis Street, every second Wednesday, and later at the Green Lantern Building, 1585 Barrington Street, Suite 207. GAE operated a drop-in centre (Thee Klub) for a few months in 1973. GAE'S office closed in June 1974 and the group ceased formal operation in December 1974. GAE reorganized and was in operation again by October 1975.
