Description

May 10 Ottawa Bill C-206, which would have amended the Canada Labour Code and the Public Services Act concerning discrimination based on age, sex, and marital status, received first reading in the House of Commons. The Bill's amendments were intended to reinforce the Canada Fair Employment Act (1953) and would affect the federal public service and industries under federal jurisdiction. The amendments, however, did not specifically add sexual orientation as an area of prohibited discrimination. The Bill was not passed before the House adjourned on July 7, 1972.
