Description

December 1 Vancouver Maurice Flood, chairperson of GATE (Vancouver), sent a letter to B.C. Minister of Labour William King asking for amendments to the British Columbia Human Rights Act to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. King replied on December 12,1972, that "I find it rather difficult to conceive of a situation where a homosexual would be discriminated against unless his tendencies were a matter of public knowledge. As one who believes that personal matters of this nature are one's own business, and should not be flaunted publicly, I cannot accept that a wide problem exists in this regard. I am personally of the opinion that homosexuality, although apparently quite widespread, should not receive the benefit of legal sanction."
