Description

June 30 Toronto The first part of a report by Ernest J. Nagler and Carlton McEachern, entitled "Male Homosexuality in Toronto: A Sociological and Social Problems Overview and Perspective. Part I: Socio-economic and Demographic Description," was published. The survey, based on interviews of 187 non-patient gay men in Toronto, including members of the University of Toronto Homophile Association, had been undertaken between December 1969 and June 1971 by the department of social pathology at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry. The study was unusual for the time in that it focused on homosexuals as a legitimate minority group rather than as a deviant culture.
