June 27 Toronto The founding meeting of Toronto Gay Action (TGA) was held, TGA grew out of a proposal for an activist caucus within CHAT and was "devoted to peaceful confrontation with all elements of sexist oppression." Its activism was directed "toward defeating all legal and social discrimination against homosexuals." TGA was run by a coordinating committee; Cheri DiNovo, Brian Waite, and John Wilson were early leaders. Its founding project was the August 28,1971, rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, TGA disbanded early in 1973 and its role was replaced by GATE (Toronto). (see also August 28,1971.)
