Description

December 11 Toronto During an inaugural meeting held at a private home, a fifteen-person steering committee was formed to set up the Community Homophile Association of Toronto (CHAT), CHAT was established as a spin-off from UTHA. The University of Toronto group had become overwhelmed with people from the general community; CHAT was formed to serve the community-at-large. One of the new group's first objectives was to start a counselling/distress phone line, which became operational January 3, 1971 . The steering committee met again on January 4 and 25, 1971, during which it appointed interim officers, with George Hislop as director, and planned the first public meeting, to be held February 1, 1971. (see also February 1, 1971.)
