Description

Autumn Toronto The St. James Bowling League, a mixed-orientation league founded in the mid-1960s, decided to declare itself all gay. Its name was changed to the Judy Garland Memorial Bowling League (JGMBL). Teams with names such as Emerald City, Friends of Dorothy, and Toto Too competed for the Ruby Slippers trophy. The JGMBL, which still exists in 1995, was one of the first and longest-lived gay sports leagues in North America.
