September 10 Toronto Ian Young's article "The Problem of Homosexuality" was published in The Eye Opener, a student newspaper at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. The article surveyed the homophobic and generally anti-sexual attitudes present in much of Western Christian society and discussed the work of some scholars (such as Dr. Wainwright Churchill and Dr. Evelyn Hooker) that had presented a more sensible outlook on homosexuality. Young concluded, "The problem is not a problem of 'the homosexual' but of our own attitude to homosexuality in others — and most of all, in ourselves."
