Description

February Milton, Ont. Rev. Ken Campbell refused to pay a portion of his school tax bill to protest "moral pollution" in the public education system. This protest was triggered, in part, by the visit during January 1974 of four members of Hamilton-McMaster GLM to address a grade twelve health class at M.M. Robinson High School in Burlington, attended by Campbell's daughters. George Hislop of CHAT and Campbell later discussed the issue on the CTV program Canada A.M. At this time Campbell was an evangelist with the Campbell-Reese Evangelistic Association, Inc., whose motto was "Global Evangelism Beginning at Home." He used the gays in schools controversy to form the Halton Renaissance Committee, which in turn grew to become Renaissance Canada, a registered charitable organization with branches across the country. Renaissance Canada was one of the sponsoring groups of Anita Bryant's Canadian tour in 1978.
