Biography

Douglas Wilson was a prominent Canadian gay activist who was an important figure in Canada’s gay liberation movement. In 1975 the University of Saskatchewan’s Dean of the College of Education refused to allow Wilson to supervise practice teachers because he was involved in the liberation movement. Wilson was elected president of the Gay Community Centre of Saskatoon in 1976. He was also the executive director of the Saskatchewan Association on Human Rights from 1978 to 1983. He died of AIDS-related causes in 1992.
