Description

May 26 Kingston The Frontenac County Board of Education voted 12-4 that "the board instruct the principals to take action to prohibit a person who professes to be a homosexual from addressing students on the subject of homosexuality during classes." Trustee John Lamarche, who introduced the motion, said that "there is a movement extending beyond Kingston to have the public accept another gender." Lamarche said that if the board were to permit these people to speak in the schools, it would condone their practice. The Church also delivered two petitions, arguing that an old clause in the Ontario Education Act was not being enforced. The clause stated that teachers should instill the principles of Christian morals in their students. CGRO and NGRC were informed that a petition to counter this vote was drawn up for provincial circulation.
