Description
October 30 Toronto About 140 people attended a benefit dinner in support of John Damien, Leonard Matlovich, and Doug Wilson, held at the Four Seasons Sheraton Hotel. The three men appeared on various local television and radio programmes in the few days surrounding the event. The Toronto Star's report of the dinner used the noun "deviates" in its title, which led to protests from members of the gay community. On November 4, Mary Axten, George Hislop, Rev. Bob Wolfe, and Peter Maloney met with Borden Spears, senior editor and ombudsman at the Star, to discuss the paper's inadequate coverage of news events in the gay community.
