August 30 Toronto Dick Smyth, news editor of CHUM radio, delivered an on-air editorial in which he said that the gay march on Parliament Hill on August 28 had been like "a demonstration for equality and acceptance by militant alcoholics, militant lepers, or militant lunatics" and that homosexuality is "a mental and sexual aberration."
